3.5 Stars bumped the rating up to 4 stars rather than down to 3 stars because I did not guess the end and that is so unusual as I nearly always guess what s going to happen I have to say, I was very pleasantly surprised with this book A book that compares itself to Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train is one that I would try to stay away from but the plot really intrigued me so I said I would at least give it a go For me, no other book is going to be like Gone Girl That book is a one of a kind so [...]

This is a very quick read, like a YA novel but I did enjoy it Mia James wakes up on a beach with waves tumbling over her, she is disoriented and has no idea of who she is or where she is She is discovered by a woman walking her dog and an ambulance is called, Mia is taken to hospital and although she is a bit sore and sorry, it is her lack of memory that is worrying her the most Next we meet Piers, Mia s boyfriend, but Piers is not very open and Mia has many questions regarding their relationsh [...]

The Girl From the Sea by Shalini Boland The dark water swallows me whole, pulling me under into blackness, dropping too fast I cannot let the water take me, so I kick and flail I push my body up Water flows Bubbles stream away The sound of air and desperate splashes The scent of damp night And at last, I see the inky sky once I don t have enough energy for relief Instead, I gasp and thrash All I know is that I must move my arms and kick my legs A woman is found on the beach laying in the sand S [...]

Shalini Boland, a British writer, has penned an excellent psycho suspense thriller The Girl From The Sea I chose the audio version because I enjoy having a book read by a professional actor A 20 something woman, Mia James, has washed up on the shore by the sea in England Alive, but with no identification She has amnesia and doesn t know her name, where she lives, who her family is or how she ended up where she did No, she s not related to Jason Bourne Her boyfriend comes to identify her and take [...]

How do I start this review well lets just say it got me in from the start was fast moving kept me wanting to know who did it I did not like the characters especially Mia had too many issues for me, but that s not to say the plot wasn t interesting it just lost me a little as I worked out what was going to happen certain characters were not as they seemed.Mia James was found on a beach not knowing who she was or how she got there she ends up in hospital under medical supervision she has family a [...]

We are the sum of our memories We exist not merely in the present but as the person we know we are from our past A girl is washed up, half drowned, on a beach in Dorset Her boyfriend reports her missing so she knows, but doesn t recognise, her name Mia James The face in her mirror is a total stranger to her She can t connect with people she is told she knows all but one Can she re invent herself or will she one day regain her memories and her true past I found this book utterly gripping To exist [...]

I really enjoyed this book From the very start it s packed with mystery, uncertainty and bewilderment as we immediately engage with Mia who has washed up on the seashore and has total memory loss This isn t just can t remember how I ended up here , this is absolute memory loss She doesn t know her own name, where she is, who she is, where she lives, or even what she looks like when she first looks in a mirror I was totally captivated by the slow recovery and revelations of Mia s life, learning w [...]

    11. Laura says:
A well paced, imaginative thriller of the genre famous for introducing girl into the title The story follows Mia, as she wakes from a traumatic incident which left her lying on the beach with no memories of who she is or how she got there As Mia struggles to readjust to her life, she begins to piece together events and relationships and finds out just how complex her life had once been I thought the story flowed nicely, I enjoyed the characters and the authors writing style Like other readers, I [...]

So a few months ago I saw this on Netgalley and completely fell in love with the cover There was just something about it that compelled me to request this book I m so glad I did because I highly enjoyed it When Mia wakes up on the beach with no idea how she got there, who she is, etc, she feels overwhelmed Mia ends up having amnesia brought on by something traumatic, being almost drowned in the sea will do that to a person So when her boyfriend identifies her, she goes home to begin unraveling w [...]

This book is a psychological thriller about a woman who is found washed up on a beach with no memory of who she is or what happens Her boyfriend identifies her from a police description as Mia and picks her up when she is released from the hospital Things are not clicking between her and her boyfriend immediately and it seems like he is not telling her the entire truth The only memory or vision she keeps having is of an angry, sneering woman Who is this woman and does she really want to remember [...]

Wow My Thoughts The Girl from the Sea is a psychological thriller that grabs your attention from the beginning and keeps you guessing throughout the book.I really enjoyed this book it was a sinister story with twists in the right places to ensure you never really knew who to trust. The characters were likeable enough, but the ending got me It had a great plot twist that I honestly did not see coming This book is a must read for fans of thrillers What I Liked I really enjoyed the storyline, it was [...]

This one just didn t work for me I listened to almost half the audio and very little had happened to move the plot forward I felt as though I was hearing the protagonist ask herself the same questions over and over and over and over, and unfortunately I became bored to the point of losing all interest.

2 1 2 stars I was originally planning to give this 1 star, but the ending changed my mind.I have some very mixed feelings about this book The first 75% of this book was all family and boyfriend drama The last 15% of this book was some actual thriller shit The ending was a kick in the balls Washed up on the beach, she can t remember who she is She can t even remember her name Turns out, she has an idyllic life friends and family eager to fill in the blanks. But why are they lying to her What don t [...]

Girl washes up sans memory Girl gets back into her uber cushy though socially challenged life Girl has questions about her past she can t sort out and attractions she can t resist That s basically what happens in this psychological thriller set in a scenic British location I was skeptical at first, but this one turned out quite decent actually Well written, nicely twisted in the end, almost always staying on the right side of the chicklit fence these sort of books tends to straddle The present t [...]

Roll up, roll up, and come to Mia James self pity party UGH, THIS NARRATOR She is the very epitome of annoying, and unfortunately narrated the whole thing. The general writing here was okay not strong, but I cannot pick fault with it The dialogue is another story entirely, however I found it weak and trite, and conversations were also dragged out far than was necessary.I found the story predictable and the denouement obvious As far as thrillers go, I think the pace was a little off too, and a fe [...]

Really enjoyed it I thought the book was very well written me reading and interestedI had an inkling about the end was she acting or was her memory loss real if she was mentally unstable in the first place then she could of convinced herself of her memory loss.m accident and a attempted murder well I guess no ones a winner in this story

anaslair.wordpress 2016 0There are a lot of memory loss stories out there Not all will be amazing. The Girl from the Sea was, for the most part, not impressive I couldn t take to the main character Frankly, she sounded annoying, whiny and needy to me And I have said this before but a character saying they sound annoying, whiny and needy in these situations does not help in my book, on the contrary The prose kept me reading but there wasn t anything there that truly hooked me, that wanted me to kn [...]

This psychological thriller starts with a woman waking up on a beach with no recollection of how she got there Once in hospital it appears she doesn t even recall her own name or recognise herself in the mirror An appeal is put out for anyone who recognises her to come forward and before long a man claiming to be her boyfriend appears, but what is he not telling her I do enjoy reading these amnesiac thrillers where you have to piece the character together from as little information as they have [...]

    29. Albert says:
The Girl From The Sea by Shalini Boland is one of those really small books that will get missed by too many readers because they ll never hear about it That is too bad This is a book that needs strong marketing behind it to draw attention to what may be one of the original and freshest voice in modern mystery What starts off as a tale of loss memory, tense atmosphere and the threat of impending danger instead turns into something far sinister and twisted As I approach the hospital bathroom mir [...]
